| Bar vs Club (the musical difference) |

So whats the difference in playing music at a bar and playing music at a full blown club? can the same music be played? I dont quite think so... and i think knowing when and how to play at either of these places is very important.
The role of music in a Bar is to provide the right tone, the right mood and the right energy levels, depending on the place and the people. The music element in the the Bar is a supplement, whereas in a club environment, the music is the driving force, cause the focus is on dancing. Many a time I have walked in to a bar only to find blaring music thats absolutely overpowering everything else there!
When I say right tone, mood and energy levels, I am not referring to lounge music, what is required is music thats groovy, bouncy but at the same time, not too hard that people cant socialize or have a conversation over. Now this makes track selection and timing very important, since more often than not, tracks are either made solely for the dance floor, or there is the other extreme of it which is lounge. Bar music is the center point of these two, and I see this style of music getting more and more attention now.
I would not play the same manner as I would in both these places, as the requirements of the places are different. Sure, there are a few tracks that are designed for and work well, at either of these places, but not all of them.
So to summarize it, the role of music in a bar is to keep the crowd grooving without invading their conversation and at a club its having them jump their asses off! - a rather simple summary and one that probably all of you knew even before reading this, but somehow we never quite look at it like that, or do we?
